Yingde modern tea industry began in 1955, when the successful test planting of the famous domestic tea tree species - Yunnan big leaf tea, followed by the production of Yingde black tea in 1959 with this tea tree species. Since its introduction, Yingde black tea is known for its well-proportioned appearance, black and red colour, red and bright soup colour, and strong and pure aroma, etc. It is known as one of the three major black teas in China, together with Yunnan Dianhong and Anhui Qihong.

Yinghong No. 9 is a highly aromatic black tea variety cultivated by the Tea Research Institute of the Guangdong Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences, which is recognised by the tea industry as the best black tea variety in China and even in the world. Its tea quality is mellow, smooth, sweet and refreshing, with long-lasting aroma, making it the best representative of Té negro Yingde.

On 31st December 2006, the former AQSIQ approved the implementation of Geographical Indication Product Protection for "Yingde Black Tea", signifying the recognition of its brand and regional characteristics.

Yingde black tea has a tight and heavy particle shape, oily colour, pure and rich aroma, thick and sweet taste, red and bright soup colour, obvious golden ring, and soft and red leaf bottom. Especially after the addition of milk, the tea soup shows a brown-red magnificent, thick and refreshing taste, making it unique among many black tea leaves.
